o many different genres influence the industry, and it has changed so much that most teacher training sessions have lost the essence of what makes yoga - yoga.
If your current yoga teacher training involves critiquing other classes, consider how this will shape you as a future teacher.
Too many teachers and trainers are trained to critique other teachers and explain what they liked and didn't like about the class. Most teacher trainers have barely dipped into the vast sea of knowledge that yoga is. This approach narrows the mind of the teacher-in-training and creates a competitive essence for upcoming teachers.
New teachers and trainers, who may not have extensive experience in yoga, sometimes position themselves as experts and offer critiques without fully immersing themselves in the practice. Obtaining 500 hours of experience may not provide a comprehensive understanding of teaching yoga. It's essential for them to further develop their ability to maintain focus during meditation and navigate all the spiritual and physical distractions.
Our unique approach sets CPY apart, which makes us stand out as focused and compassionate trainers.
Our studio creates a non-judgmental environment where everyone can explore and learn without fear of criticism. Teachers and trainers discover that yoga encompasses more than chakras and postures.
Judging other teachers is ineffective and will limit your ability and desire to learn.
Yoga is here to expand our minds and our journey. It's not for us to narrowly assume why a teacher teaches a certain way or whether they are entertaining enough. Do they tell enough jokes, or are they inspiring and fierce? None of that matters in the art of yoga (teaching it or practicing it).
Are you too young or too old to teach yoga?
The ancient teachings and texts teach students to find a teacher who can train them and give them the strength and will to move past the limited mind into the expansive mind. Finding a teacher isn't about what they look like or how old they are. We were too young to teach when we first opened, and now we are too old. Yes, it isn't very clear in today's society. Teachers judge other teachers based on superficial ideas and their social media profiles. Are they too busy posting about themselves to influence others instead of using their precious time to practice and study?
We inspire through our devotion and dedication to help you become a powerful yoga practitioner.
At CPY, we help individuals and dedicate our days to being here for our students. This means we aren't on social media pushing an agenda, brand, or idea.
Our studio has a rich and vibrant yoga history of almost 25 years. We have evolved and grown to become a leading yoga studio in Orlando.
Our journey, marked by continuous learning and growth, has led us to become a leading yoga studio in Orlando. We are known for our unique approach to yoga practice and teaching, and we are deeply committed to sharing our knowledge and experience with our students. This isn't something social media can exert influence over. This is also why we offer private training sessions for our students. Massive groups of students don’t always equate to enhanced or better learning.
At CPY, we understand that many students have questions that cannot be answered in passing after a yoga class, or even during an assist in a yoga class. We also recognize that many students are often less willing to express their innermost thoughts in a large group. This understanding has led us to shift our focus from the group mind to the individual mind, ensuring that each student feels valued and understood.
Yoga. It has to be experienced, lived, and with the teacher and student fully present and slowly building trust in each other. With trust from the student and the teacher trusting the student will use the lessons taught, there will be a tremendous breakthrough, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Trust creates a powerful transformation.
When teachers are on the warpath to becoming studio owners or teachers, they break the bond of trust and create a hostile environment for themselves and their students. We have seen this with hundreds of teachers, and it is sad for the industry because those teachers not only shortchange themselves but also shortchange their future students.
The ability to maintain a striking posture doesn't define a teacher; the practice of yoga does.
As the founders of this studio, Calvin and I feel bad for teachers because they always tell us, " Oh, I can't do that pose, and it is embarrassing because I teach yoga". And we look at each other like why would that be embarrassing, and why does it even matter in the first place if you can do a particular pose or not? We are all shaped differently and have different histories; we were not born yoga masters; we are here to learn, and part of that learning process is navigating the body's limits without force.
The yoga teacher is here to hold a space. And at CPY , We. Do. Just. That.
At our studio, we cultivate a strong sense of community. Here, teachers can shed the judgmental and critical mindset that unfortunately characterizes many modern yoga teacher training programs. They can be tight, sore, and limited in their range of motion, and they get to practice with students who are indifferent to their status and the possibility of getting a posture.
Our studio is a place they can call home, a place to let go, relax, unwind, and just be themselves. They are without the label of 'I am a teacher, or I am going to be a teacher.' They get to experience yoga, open and expand their minds, and, most importantly, feel a deep sense of belonging.
We have been the go-to studio for teachers and trainers who have lost the inspiration of yoga and find themselves constantly competing and comparing themselves to others instead of enjoying the work of yoga.
Thank you for the community you have built. Your ripple effect is transformative. Namaste!
