I love talking with students because they use phrases and words that I remember, which also helped me while learning about yoga.
One of those key phrases is, "Mindfulness is a skill you learn."
Focus and concentration are not just given to a few people; they are something we can all harness if we learn how to do them.
AT CPY, we have focused on the how so much that we often forget to remind people that the skills they are developing are everything the yoga industry is trying to put into little boxes and sell on TickTok and Insta.
Yoga is designed to help us move through life, not just through postures.
You can say relax 50 million times, and every time, the body doesn't. That's because we haven't learned to associate the word relax with a skill or practice. Yoga gives us the tools to develop those skills, and we can learn to relax during stressful meetings or when having to be with family members or friends who are, let's say, a little challenging. We develop these skills to relax through yoga. We learn the art of relaxation, not just through postures and breathing but also through our effort to concentrate on these aspects of yoga.
Utilize the skills you learned at CPY
this holiday season, such as sitting tall, breathing deeply, and focusing your mind. By doing this, you will enhance your well-being, as your positive memories from yoga classes will resurface, allowing you to relax even amidst the chaos of the holiday season.
Also, sometimes, seeing your yoga teacher now and again helps to remind you how to achieve those amazing experiences of gratefulness and peace. :)
We are sending you all a ton of love and peace this holiday season.
