New to CPY students how to's and FAQ's

Welcome to CPY, your yoga haven!

If you have never been to CPY, we have a unique process for new students to follow before joining us for group classes. This process is designed to help you understand that the work we do here at CPY is something everyone can learn, but the path to get there is unlike the standard yoga studio formats.

If you are new to CPY keep reading! There's more to learn about taking a class here.

New to CPY? Here's what to do, no matter your level or expertise in yoga practice. We ask that all new students set up using this step-by-step process. If you are from out of town, please text CPY to learn your steps to join us for a group class.

Take a private lesson with our teachers.

We encourage all new students to consider private lessons with Calvin or Theresa. We've noticed that many students with incredible potential in yoga tend to give up before entirely starting their journey. Often, just a little guidance—like modifying a posture, shifting your mindset, or gaining insight into our practices—can make a difference.

Yoga is all about enjoying the journey.  While online classes on platforms like YouTube and TikTok can be entertaining, the real magic of yoga happens in a person with an experienced yoga teacher by your side.

If you have an injury or health limitation, start here.

If you are dealing with a recent injury, recovering from an illness, or have specific health conditions, we want to ensure your safety and well-being. Before joining our group classes, we recommend scheduling a yoga therapy session.

CPY is unique and doesn't bend to trends.

Our group classes are 90 minutes long, allowing for a deeper practice instead of the quick 45-60 minute sessions that are popular these days. We like to keep our space warm but don't overheat the room. Plus, we focus on quality over quantity when it comes to our teaching staff—no need for a hundred teachers! While some studios may be out for fame and trends, our priority is on sharing and teaching yoga in a genuine way.

Who you choose to teach you yoga shouldn't be a popularity contest.

We're dedicated to giving you a unique and powerful yoga experience that sets us apart from the rest. We have a straightforward process for new students to ensure you get the most out of your practice.

Step 5: Embrace the process and enjoy your learning experience at CPY. We guarantee it will be unlike any other you've had!

Preparing for Your First Lesson

- Dress comfortably—this is essential. We sweat during practice, so wear suitable workout gear. Check our website for some excellent options.

- Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water leading up to your session.

- If you need to eat, do so at least 2-3 hours before your lesson. If you must snack closer to your class, inform your instructor.

- No yoga mat? No problem at all; we have plenty available! ($2 rental for group class participants)

- We practice barefoot, but please let us know if you have foot issues or prefer shoes.

A few more things

Don't wait to get flexible or strong before you start yoga; that's a misconception. Start now! Yoga teaches us to use practical strength, which is helpful for lifting and balancing.

Age is irrelevant here. We're experienced in working with all bodies, whether you've been active recently or are just getting back into movement after a long pause.

Join us at CPY. Take the first step today and transform your relationship with yoga!
